Women's Basketball Adds Freya Newton to All-Decade Team

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State women's basketball program honors Freya Newton as a member of its all-decade team.

Coming all the way from Palmerston North, New Zealand, Newton played as a forward for the Bengals from 2014-17. During the 2016-17 season, Newton was named Big Sky Defensive player of the year, one of just two Bengals to ever win the award. She would go on to earn ISU Women's Basketball Team MVP that same year.

"Freya is a tall athletic guard who is one of our all time great defenders," said Head Coach Seton Sobolewski. "Her length and athleticism help her be a good defender, but it was her heart, intelligence, and selflessness that made her an elite defender."

The all-decade team strives to honor those who have made a significant impact to the Idaho State women's basketball program.

There are nine selections to the all-decade team. Three selections will be announced each week for three weeks, ending on Thursday, Sept. 24.

To be eligible for the all-decade team, a student-athlete must have played at least one year between the 2010-11 and 2019-20 academic years.
