POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State volleyball team won its first match of the season taking down the University of Montana 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-21) in straight sets Monday night in Reed Gym.
After Montana committed a service error in the first set making the score 2-1 in favor of the Bengals, the Orange and Black took the lead and never looked back. The Bengals dominated the first set 25-18 with Tracy Kennedee leading the team with six kills on eight attacks. The Bengals outhit the Grizzlies .333 to .048 and only committed one attacking error the entire set.
In the second set, the Bengals didn't let off the gas, winning the set 25-15. The Bengals continued to dominate the net offensively outhitting the Grizzlies .259 to -.097.
The third set saw the Grizzlies jump out to an early 5-0 lead. The Bengals didn't give in though, after a 6-0 run the Bengals pulled to within one point to make the game 7-8 in favor of the Grizzlies. The Bengals continued to claw away at the Grizzly lead eventually taking the lead at 13-12 from a kill by Danielle Devlin. The team didn't give up the lead the rest of the way finishing the game on a 5-1 run to win the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.
The Bengals outhit the Grizzlies .292 to .042 behind 11 kills from Tracy Kenedee on 15 attacks and 8 kills by Sadie Gardner. The Bengals finished the game with only six attack errors compared to Montana's 26.
Idaho State out blocked Montana seven to four with Taylor Meeks leading the team with two solo blocks and three block assists. Raegan Kunz also contributed with three block assists.
