Women's Basketball Heads to Phoenix to Take On Grand Canyon University

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State women's basketball is on the road this week to face one the best teams in the WAC. The Bengals play the Grand Canyon University Antelopes on Friday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. MST.

All-Time Series vs Grand Canyon University

This will be the first meeting between the two programs. Both teams are having a strong year.

The Antelopes are currently 9-2 on the season, with a 1-1 WAC record. The Antelopes have played four other Big Sky Schools this season going 3-1. The wins coming against Weber State, Nothern Arizona and Eastern Washington.

GCU's Big Sky loss came in Cedar City on Dec. 12 against Southern Utah. The Thunderbirds, who ISU was set to play this week, beat the Antelopes 84-83.

GCU is coming off of a 61-52 win against New Mexico State on Jan. 16. The team is among the nation's leaders in steals and forced turnovers averaging 15.3 steals per game.  

Bengal Bites

After the series with PSU, Estefania Ors has now made 182 career three-pointers. This ties her with Andrea Lightfoot for the all-time ISU record.

12-1 is the best start in program history.

A 10-0 conference record is the best since the 2000-01 Big Sky Championship team.

Last Game Recap: vs Portland State

The Idaho State women's basketball team defeated the Portland State VIkings 70-62 to remain undefeated in Big Sky play. The Bengals held onto their lead for the entire game and fought off a fourth quarter surge from the Vikings. 

Throughout the first quarter the Bengals consistently maintained a 10 point lead over Portland State. To end the quarter, Dora Goles made a buzzer beater jumper to increase Idaho State's lead to 21-9. 

During the second quarter, the Orange and Black held onto their lead thanks to strong shooting by Callie Bourne who was 5-6 from the field in the first half. While the Vikings outscored the Bengals 16-10 the Bengals still ended the half up 31-25.

The Bengals outscored Portland State 24-23 in the third quarter. The period ended with Delaney Moore sinking two free throws after a foul during her rebound. Idaho State still led 55-48 at the end of the third.

In the final period, the Bengals held off the Vikings to secure the victory. PSU cut the Bengal lead to six at 68-62 with 25 seconds left in the game. Bourne ended the game with two made free throw shots bringing the score to 70-62. 

Idaho State finished the game shooting 48.2 percent on 27-of-56 field goals. Portland State out-rebounded the Bengals 43-37.

Five Bengals ended the game with double digit points. Bourne led the team with 18 points and nine rebounds. Moore earned a season high of 14 points. Goles followed with 13, Ellie Smith and Montana Oltrogge ended with 10.
