POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State men's basketball team defeated the University of Idaho 69-43 in the Battle of the Domes Thursday evening in Reed Gym.
The Bengals shot 44.1 percent from the field, making 26 field goals on 59 attempts. ISU made eight 3-pointers on 24 attempts and dominated the boards, with a 45-31 advantage.
The Bengals were in control the entire game. Austin Smellie hit a 3-pointer to open the game and the Bengals never looked back. Idaho State took its largest lead of the half with 4:47 remaining after a jump-shot by Brayden Parker put them ahead 32-15. The half ended with the Bengals leading 38-23.
Tarik Cool started the second half strong with back-to-back three-pointers. Later in the half, the Bengals went on a 9-0 run to lead 55-29 with 9:20 remaining.
The Bengals stretched their lead to 31 points after a three pointer by Smellie put them ahead 61-30 with 7:42 remaining. Idaho State took its largest lead of the game at 63-30 soon after with 6:53 remaining after a layup by Daxton Carr.
Cool led the Bengals with 14 points, four rebounds and one steal.
Smellie and Brayden Parker each racked up 12 points and Parker had seven rebounds. Robert Ford III had nine points with 11 rebounds. Malik Porter scored 11 with four rebounds, two assists, three blocks, and three steals.
Thirteen Bengals saw court time in the commanding victory.
The Bengals return to Reed Gym Saturday, February 13 at 12 p.m. to play Idaho for the second time in their Battle of the Domes series.
The Bengals improved their record to 10-7 overall with a 6-3 mark in Big Sky Conference play.
