POCATELLO, Idaho - The Idaho State men's basketball team defeated Idaho 64-58 in an overtime thriller Saturday afternoon in Reed Gym.
The game went back and forth as there were eight lead changes, six ties and neither team led by more than eight points. Idaho State led 28-27 at halftime, but the Vandals came out in the second half strong and pulled ahead, leading by as many as eight points at 44-36 with 9:29 left in the game.
The Bengals rallied from the deficit but were down by three points with seconds remaining on the clock. The final play of the regulations fell into
Daxton Carr's hands and the sophomore rose to the occasion, draining a 3-pointer with only 1.3 seconds left to play to tie the game at 54 and force the Vandals into overtime.
Idaho State took care of business in the final five minutes, out scoring the Vandals 8-3 to earn the victory.
ISU made 20 of 44 attempted shots (45.5 percent). The Bengals were strong on the boards, out rebounding Idaho 34-28. Idaho State was 8-17 from the three-point line.
Tarik Cool led the Bengals with 22 points. He made three 3-pointers and had five rebounds.
Austin Smellie had 10 points.
Brayden Parker had nine points and five blocks while
Malik Porter had eight points and eight rebounds off the bench.
The Bengals are now 11-7 on the season with a 7-3 record in Big Sky Conference play.
The Bengals play George Fox on Monday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. in Reed Gym.
