Idaho State Takes Down George Fox in Non-Conference Competition

POCATELLO, Idaho - Idaho State men's basketball took down George Fox University, 84-59, during a break from conference play Monday afternoon in Reed Gym. 

Idaho State outrebounded George Fox 44-21 and had seven blocks. Malik Porter led the team with 10 rebounds. Austin Smellie led the team with 19 points. He was one of five players to score in double figures. Brayden Parker scored 15, Emmit Taylor III scored 14, Tarik Cool had 13 and Malik Porter finished with 11. Idaho State shot 52.9 percent from the field 

George Fox was in control of the game for the first five minutes. During their run, the Bruins went five-for-five from the three-point line which ended with George Fox leading 15-9 with 15:35 left in the first half. The Bengals then went on a 12-0 run over four minutes. Porter capped the run, hitting a basket with 11:38 left in the first half to lead 21-15. 

The Bengals later went on a 10-0 run to finish the half up 50-32. The Bengal run included four free throws by Robert Ford III, a three by Taylor, and a dunk by Daxton Carr.

In the first half, Idaho State shot 69.2 percent from the field on 18-of-26. The Bengals outrebounded the Bruins 20-6. Smellie lead the team with 14 points on five-of-five shooting from the field including three-of-three from behind the three-point line.

Parker scored the first points of the second half for the Bengals. Cool and Taylor shot back to back threes at 13:43 and 12:32 to start a 9-0 run which brought Idaho State's lead to 64-45 with 11:02 left in the game.

Cool was five-for-five from the free-throw line in the final two minutes. Zach Visentin ended the game with a dunk which put the Bengals up 84-59, their largest lead of the entire game was 25 points.
