POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State University Women's tennis team fell to the University of Montana 5-2 on Friday morning in Missoula, Montana.
The Bengals came out strong and took control of the doubles, claiming all three matches to earn the doubles point.
Lola O'Lideadha and
Sol O'Lideadha dominated the No. 2 spot, winning 6-0 over Julia Ronney and Maria Goheen. At the No. 1 position
Hristina Cvetkovic and
Hana Cho defeated Alex Walker and Lauren Dunlap 6-3.
Angela Walker and
Alexandra Arkhipov won a hard fought set 6-4 over Olivia Oosterbaan and Ivayla Mitkova at No. 3.
"The girls played great doubles today," said Head Coach
Gretchen Maloney. "We have been working on our net play all week. I really liked the way the girls were aggressive and closed the net well. Our serves and returns were also strong today."
In singles play, the lone Bengal victory came from
Lola O'Lideadha at No. 6. The first set was close for O'Lideadha but she played tough in the second set to claim the match 6-4, 6-0.
"We struggled in getting our offense going in singles today. We got down quickly in several matches and couldn't recover," said Maloney.
The Bengals return to action Saturday, February 27 in Bozeman, Montana when they take on Montana State.
