POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State University women's tennis team defeated Montana State 5-2 in Bozeman, Montana Saturday morning.
"The girls rebounded nicely today after a tough loss yesterday," said Head Coach Gretchen Maloney. "In doubles we had some really tight matches. Angie and Alex were down three match points and came back to win in a tiebreaker. It was so good getting the doubles point and today we used the momentum going into singles play."
Lola O'Lideadha and Sol O'Lideadha were the first to claim a win for the Bengals, winning doubles at the No. 3 spot 6-3 against JJ Chen and Evi Buijsen. Alexandra Arkhipov and Angela Walker then won a hard-fought battle at the No. 2 spot over Mirte Van Baelen and Enni Zander, winning the match in a deciding tiebreaker 7-6(5) to claim the doubles point for the Bengals.
In singles play, the Orange and Black came out strong, earning victories at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6.
Megan Lang-Gould claimed the first win in a straight set victory 6-3, 6-2 over Chen at the No. 4 spot. The next win came from Sol O Lideadha at the No. 3 spot. Sol O Lideadha's commanding victory over Jazmin Lerman was 6-1, 6-2. Hana Cho earned a hard fought battled at No. 2, coming back from losing the first set to claim the match 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 over Van Baelen. Lola O Lideaha was the fifth and final win for the Bengals with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Zander at No. 6.
"In singles the girls were super positive and executed the game plans well," said Maloney. "Our goal is to get a little better every day and that's what we are doing."
Idaho State is now 5-3 on the season. The Bengals return to action at home Saturday, March 6 when they take on Dixie State at 10 a.m. and The College of Idaho at 3 p.m. in Reed Gym.
