Women's Basketball to Host Northwest Nazarene Friday

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State women's basketball returns to Reed Gym this Friday, Feb. 5, to host the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks at 4 p.m. MST.

The game will feature Live Stats, video and audio brought to you by KISU with Mark Liptak on the call.

All-Time Series vs Northwest Nazarene

This will be the third all-time meeting between the two programs. The two teams are currently 1-1 all time with the Bengals winning the last contest 88-69 in 2014.

This season, the Nighthawks are 2-4 on the year. They are coming to Pocatello off of an 85-69 win over Saint Martin's University.

The Nighthawks are averaging 69.3 points, 37.2 rebounds and 14.5 assists a game.

The team is led in scoring by #23 Erin Jenkins, who is averaging 11.3 points per game, and on the boards by #21 Nyalam Thaback who is grabbing 7.2 rebounds a game.

Bengal Bites

Estefania Ors has made 183 career three-pointers, giving her sole possession of the ISU all-time made three point record.

Estefie also needs 11 more games to pass Kara Jenkins and become the leader in most games played. Jenkins played in 124 games for ISU. Estefie stands at 114 played.

13-1 is the best start in program history.

A 10-0 conference record is the best since the 2000-01 Big Sky Championship team.

In the last nine games Delaney Moore and Ellie Smith have combined for 160 points and 96 rebounds out of the post. That's an average of 17.7 points and 10.6 rebounds a game. Ellis is now tied in 10th place all-time in blocked shots with 80

 

Last Game Recap: vs Grand Canyon

The Idaho State women's basketball team defeated Grand Canyon University 62-54 in Phoenix Friday afternoon. The game was highlighted by Estefania Ors breaking the Idaho State all-time made three-point shot record.

The first quarter ended with the two teams tied 12-12. Both teams had six turnovers and the two teams went back and forth in a strong defensive period.

In the first minute of the second quarter, Diaba Konate hit a layup to give the Bengals a 14-12 lead. The Antelopes responded retaking a 17-16 lead at 8:12 in the period. After that, the Bengals didn't look back going on a 17-to-two run over the remainder of the period.

The run was highlighted by Ors hitting her record-breaking three pointer with 5:51 left in the quarter to make it a 25-17 lead and continue to propel the Bengals in the quarter.

The Bengals came out strong in the second half shooting seven-of-13 in the third quarter to maintain an 18-point lead headed into the final period.

In the fourth quarter the Antelopes came roaring back. During the period the Antelopes outscored the Bengals 20-10. With 4:15 to play in the game, GCU hit a three-pointer to pull the lead to six, 53-47. The Bengals would extend the lead to 10 with 2:47 to play after Diaba Konate hit two free throws making the score 57-47.

The Bengals would hold on as the Antelopes made a push in the final minutes of the game. Bringing the game back to a 60-54 six-point difference with 12 seconds to play. The Bengals held off though, with Konate hitting a pair of free-throws to secure win with a final 62-54 score.

The Bengals shot 43.8 percent from the field on 21-of-48 from the field. Three Bengals scored in the double-digits led by Konate's 12 points on three-of-five from the field and six-of-10 from the free throw line. Bourne followed with 11 points and Goles with 10.

The Bengals dominated the glass outrebounding the Antelopes 46-31. The team was led by Delaney Moore's nine boards. Ors followed with seven.

Going into the game, the Antelopes were ranked No. 1 in the NCAA in forced turnovers. While they forced 24 turnovers on the Bengals, ISU responded in kind and forced 17 on GCU.
