POCATELLO, Idaho - The Idaho State soccer team fell to Northern Colorado 2-0 Friday afternoon at ICCU Practice Field.
"Overall I think the result doesn't reflect the performance our team gave," said Head Coach
Debs Brereton. "I felt as the game progressed we turned ourselves around and from taking an early loss we recovered very well."
Northern Colorado started off strong in the first half scoring two goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. The Bears outshot the Bengals 9-0 in the first half.
The second half the Bengal defense held strong, only allowing the Bears four shots. The offense also had some good looks on goal but couldn't quite find the back of the net.
Freshman goalkeeper Mckayla Wetsel had four saves.
"I think this is a huge learning curve, we've got a really young team and they have never experienced the Big Sky game before," said Brereton. "I think if anything they now understand that the game is never completely out of our reach and if we can start on Sunday the way we ended today I think it could be a very different result."
Idaho State will be back at ICCU Practice Field Sunday, March 21 at 12 p.m. to take on Northern Colorado in round two.
Saturday the Bengals will also be recognizing seniors
Lauren McGahie,
Marisa Hasebi, Lau Akana-Phillips, and
Rachel Brownell.
