POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's tennis team won its third straight match, beating Grand Canyon 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon in Phoenix, Ariz., at the GCU Tennis Courts.
After losing the doubles point, the Bengals battled in singles play.
At No. 2 singles
Aleksander Petrovic won 7-6, 6-1 and
Jaime Castillo-Lopez battled to a 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles.
Hiroki Fujita won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. In the deciding match that gave the Bengals the victory,
Wikus Robbertse battled to a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 victory.
"What a great win this is for our team," Idaho State coach
Alexander Free said. "This was one of the gutsiest performances I have seen from our team and we absolutely competed like warriors today. GCU is a really tough team that has won their conference two years in a row and a win like this for us really helps us build some confidence going into the second half of our season."
Idaho State plays at Arizona State on Wednesday, March 24 and begins Big Sky Conference play on March 26 at NAU.
