Softball Opens Conference Play at Weber State This Weekend

POCATELLO, Idaho –
Idaho State softball opens conference play this weekend taking on Weber State in Ogden Utah.

Friday, Mar. 26 is a double-header with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m. Game three starts at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 27.

Bengal Bites

Emma Bordenkecher was named Big Sky Player of the Week for her performance at the GCU Invitational. She hit .625 (10-of-16) on the weekend, with three home runs, seven RBI's, three runs and a slugging percentage of 1.250. Her on-base percentage ended at .611 and she didn't commit single error in five contests. This is her first Player of the Week honor this season, but the fourth of her career overall.

Emma ranks No. 2 in the conference in overall statistics and No.3 in RBIs.

The Bengals lead the Big Sky with a .316 average. In 358 at bats, ISU has 113 hits and 71 runs. The team is hitting .422 SLG% and .389 ob&.

The Bengals have committed a conference-low 11 errors on 243 putouts for a .969 fielding percentage.

The ISU pitchers are third in the conference standings with a 6.31 combined ERA.

The Bengals have four of the top-10 overall players in Bordenkecher, Cargill, Hess and Lewis. All four Bengals are hitting over .350 this season.

Mareena Ramirez ranks No.4 in the conference in pitching with a 4.11 ERA.


Scouting Weber State

The Weber State Wildcats are 9-11 on the season. The Wildcats split their series with common opponent Utah Valley (W 3-0, L 0-5).

WSU is hitting .267 as a team while their opponents are hitting .284. They are led by Mia Rushton who is hitting .333 in 20 games played with 22 hits and 7 RBIs. Emily Ruhl, who has played in 13 games for WSU is hitting .375.

Katelyn Whiting leads the team in RBIs with 14.

Weber has left 136 on compared to their opponents 127.

The Wildcat pitching staff is led by Mariah Ramirez with a 3.38 pitching staff. In 47.2 innings pitched she has allowed 50 hits and has 37 strikeouts.
