POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State softball team split day one of the Boyd Gaming Classic hosted by UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada Friday afternoon.
The Bengals started the day with a 3-1 win against Utah Valley University and finished the day falling to UNLV 10-2.
"We had a good game and win against UVU and lost to a really good team in UNLV," said Head Softball Coach Cristal Brown. "We are looking at that as a tool to get better. We're excited about getting back on the field tomorrow and getting more opportunities."
ISU 3 – UVU 1
The Bengals started the day facing off against UVU. The Bengals came away with the 3-1 victory outhitting the Wolverines 6-5. The team got on the board in the first after an RBI single by Emma Bordenkecher.
In the fourth, the Bengals scored two off of a single by Morgan Hess and a fielding error by UVU.
Mareena Ramirez pitched a complete seven innings, giving up one run and five hits. Ramirez struck out four batters and walked none.
ISU 2 – UNLV 10
The Idaho State softball team fell to the UNLV Rebels 10-2 on Saturday.
After giving up two runs in the 1st and a two-run homerun in the 3rd. The Rebels added six more runs in the 5th to win the game 10-2.
The Bengals got on the board in the 5th after a two-run homerun by Angelica Cano.
Bengal Pitcher Emma Montoya gave up 12 hits and had two strikeouts.
Tournament Continues
The Bengals continue the tournament tomorrow as they face UVU and Seattle U.
