POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State softball wrapped up day two of the Boyd Gaming Classic in Las Vegas Nevada Saturday afternoon. The Bengals fell to Seattle University 8-0 and completed the tournament sweep of UVU with an 11-7 win.
The Bengals conclude the tournament Sunday morning facing Seattle University at 10 a.m. MST.
"[We] had one ugly inning against Seattle," said Head Coach Cristal Brown. "Proud that we bounced back after a poor display to get a team win in the second game."
ISU 0 – Seattle 8
The Bengals fell to the Seattle U Redhawks 8-0 Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas, Nev.
All eight points were scored in the second inning, when, after going up 3-0 the Redhawks hit a grand slam to make the score 7-0 and tacked on another run before the end of the inning.
In the five innings played, the Bengals hit three runs and left three on.
ISU 11 – UVU 7
The Bengals rebounded with an 11-7 game two win over Utah Valley.
The two teams came out of the gate swinging and after a hard-fought first inning, ended tied 3-3.
Not content with the tie, Emma Bordenkecher hit a two-run home run home run to center field giving the Bengals the 5-3 lead after two.
UVU would tack on another run in the fourth before the two teams would maintain that 5-4 lead until the seventh.
In the seventh the Bengals opened it up, scoring 6 runs in the top of the inning to win the game with the 11-7 final.
Mailee Newman earned her second win of the year, pitching five innings giving up two hits and one run.
The Bengals outhit the Wolverines 14-6 on 34 at bats with nine RBIs and eight LOB.
Tournament Conclusion
The 2021 Boyd Gaming tournament concludes tomorrow with a rematch between the Bengals and the Seattle U Redhawks at 10 a.m. MST.
