POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State volleyball team dropped the first game of their series with Southern Utah University 3-2.
After dropping the first set 20-25 and only hitting .034, The Bengals came roaring back in Set 2 hitting .300 and only committing three attack errors. The Bengals defense also held strong, holding the Thunderbirds to .030. The Bengals controlled the entire set and finished with the 25-16 advantage.
The Bengals continued their strong play into Set 3 hitting .161 and winning the set 25-18 after holding the Thunderbirds once again below 4 percent at .034.
Despite out-killing Southern Utah in Set four, the Bengals committed 11 attack errors and the Thunderbirds won set 4 25-17.
In Set 5 the Thunderbirds pulled out to an early 8-4 lead. The Bengals didn't give up pulling to within 7-8 before the Tbirds were able to pull away for the 15-8 set win and the 3-2 match win.
The Bengals won the battle at the net, out-blocking SUU 10-8. Kaia Rhodes led the team with six blocks.
The Bengals as a team had 11 service aces with five coming in the 4th. The team was just below the threshold of 13 in a game to make it into the single-game record book.
Three Bengals had double-digit kills with Rhodes and Taylor Meeks tied at 11 each. Sadie Gardner followed just behind with 10.
Kennedee Tracy lead the team in digs with 16.
Andri Dewey had 31 assists, three digs and two block assists.
The Bengals return to the court tomorrow night at 6 p.m. MST for game two of the series against SUU.
