POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State volleyball team fell in 5 matches 3-2 (22-25, 25-16, 25-22, 21-25, 10-15) to Southern Utah University Sunday evening.
"I liked how my team battled this weekend," said Head Coach Sammi Stuart. "It seems as though we are destined to continue going 5 with teams. We just need to keep competing."
After losing the first set 22-25, the Bengals came roaring back in the 2nd, hitting .229 and outscoring the Thunderbirds 25-16.
The Bengals continued that momentum into the 3rd outlasting a late SUU surge to win the set 25-22.
The fourth and fifth sets went the Thunderbirds way and they eventually won the match 3-2. This was the Bengals fourth 5 Set match in in the last six matches.
It was a strong night for the Bengal outside hitters. Kennedee Tracy led the Bengals with a 24 kill 14 dig double-double, just off the Bengal record book entry of 28. Sadie Gardner followed with an 11 kill 17 dig double-double. This was the first match where both hitters recorded a double-double.
Andri Dewey led both teams with 47 assists. Dewey also tacked on one kill and 11 digs on the night. Rachel Driskell also recorded double digit digs with 15.
The Bengals were outblocked 11-7. Taylor Meeks led the team with 5 blocks, she also recorded 11 kills on the night.
The Bengals are back in action as they host Weber State next week in the final homestand of the season. First serve is set for 12 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 13.
