POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team lost 8-4 to Portland State on Saturday afternoon in the final game of a three-game series in Portland, Ore.
Idaho State had seven hits and one error while Portland State finished the afternoon with 11 hits.
Mailee Newman led the Bengal offense with two hits, one RBI and one run scored. She also pitched 4.2 innings, allowed nine hits, seven runs and four walks.
The game was scoreless through four innings. In the top of the fifth, the Bengals scored three runs. The scoring started with a Newman homer to left field.
Amber Arreola then doubled down the left field line and
Rheanne Lewis tripled to right-center, platting
Kaylee Butterworth, who was pinch running. Lewis later scored on a ground out by
Emma Bordenkecher.
In the bottom half of the inning Portland State scored seven runs to lead 7-3. The Bengals added a run in the sixth when
Shea Perkins singled to center field, scoring
Frankie Tago, who led off the inning with a double to center field.
The Vikings added a run in the bottom half of the sixth inning to lead 8-4.
Idaho State returns home to Miller Ranch Stadium to host Boise State on April 21 at 3 p.m. The Bengals then host Montana in a three-game series April 24-25.
