Bengals Host Montana in Weekend Series

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State softball continues its Big Sky Conference campaign this weekend as the Bengals host the Montana Lady Griz in a double header Saturday, April 24 starting at noon and a single game Sunday, April 25 at noon.

Live stats will be available for all three games. Mark Liptak will be on the call on 91.1 KISU weather permitting. A live video feed of the game without commentary will also be available on the Idaho State athletics Facebook page.

The Montana Lady Griz barely hold the edge in the series 9-8.

In the previous 10 matchups the Bengals are 3-7 against Montana.

Previous Matchup with the Lady Griz on 3/31/2019

The Idaho State softball team lost 4-3 to Montana in eight innings on Sunday afternoon in Missoula. Despite the loss, the Bengals won the series vs. the Griz, taking two of three.

 

"We started off well then we played tight," Idaho State coach Candi Letts said. "We had opportunities to win it and just didn't mentally compete. Montana played scrappy. Overall it was a good weekend. Aubrey again had a great day."

 

The Bengals had 10 hits, led by Aubrey Creekmore going 3-3 with one RBI. MaKenzie Van Sickle and Haley Harrison each had two hits.

 

Montana had 10 hits and Autumn Pease took the loss. She pitched the final 3.2 innings, allowed four hits, two runs, three walks and struck out five. Kelsea Sweeney went the first four innings. She scattered six hits, allowed two runs (only one earned) and three walks.

 

Idaho State scored two runs in the top of the first to open the game. Van Sickle led off with a single to right field and Harrison followed with an infield single to short stop. Later in the inning Van Sickle scored on an error and Creekmore platted Harrison on a double to right-center by Creekmore.

 

Montana scored a run in the bottom of the first but ISU countered with a run in the second to take a 3-1 lead. Frankie Tago opened the inning with a double to center field and Billie Jean Wells singled home Tago on a hit to right-center.

 

Montana scored a run in the fifth, sixth and eighth inning to earn the victory.
