POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State's
Katie Weedn captured first place at the Idaho State Invitational 6K race with a time of 22:23.8.
Zak Montoya was the top finisher in the men's 6K race as he finished third at 18:40.
"Home meets are special in that they truly give us a chane to showecase some great athletes to our community," Idaho State coach
Nate Houle said. "It is also a rare opportunity for the team to have a crowd of people overwhelmingly in support of them and their teammates. That's not something that happens too often in cross country. The teams both ran according to the plan and executed well. Now we head to the most important races of the year with some good momentum."
The women won the three-team invitational, beating Utah State and Utah Valley. Following Weedn's first place finish,
Cassandra Vasquez finished fifth with a time 22:39.3.
Madi Kenyon had a top 10 finish (8
th place) at 22:59.5.
"Katie came into this race as a senior wanting to win on her home course and did exactly that," Houle said. "She sat right in with the lead group for the first lap and then made a move heading into the final hills and broke everybody that was with her. It's great to see her strength right now and expect her to keep getting stronger this whole season."
Laura Alicke finished 11
th at 23:12.3.
On the men's side,
D'Artagnan Kilgore finished ninth at 18:49.7 to round out the Top 10.
The men and women's have time off before traveling to Texas A&M on Oct. 16.
