POCATELLO, Idaho- Despite a valiant second-half rally, the Idaho State men's basketball team lost 61-60 at Sacramento State on Thursday night at the Hornets Nest in Sacramento, Calif.
The Bengals trailed 59-53 with 2:38 left in the game. Idaho State then went on a 7-0 run and made seven of its last eight shots to take a 60-59 lead following a basket by
Malik Porter with 1:05 left in the game. The lead was Idaho State's second of the game as it also held a 32-31 lead early in the second half.
Sacramento State would score the go-ahead basket with 2.1 seconds left on a goal-tending call to give the Hornets the win.
Tarik Cool had a last second 3-pointer from 26 feet that rimmed out to give the Hornets the win.
Porter led the Bengals with 15 points and eight rebounds. Porter scored his 15 points on 5-6 shooting. He was 5-8 from the free throw line and played 17 minutes off the bench.
Cool had 14 points and
Liam Sorensen had seven assists.
Idaho State shot 50 percent for the game while the Hornets shot 44 percent. ISU won the rebounding battle 28-27.
Idaho State played from behind most of the night as it fell behind 10-0 early in the game and trailed 29-25 at halftime.
Idaho State plays at Northern Colorado on Saturday at 6 p.m.
