POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State women's basketball fell to the USC Trojans 75-42 Saturday evening at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, CA.
The Bengals fall to 1-1 on the season while the USC Trojans move to 2-0.
"I thought our approach to the game tonight gave us a chance," remarked Head Coach Seton Sobolewski. "We have to take care of the unforced turnovers and keep learning. Overall, I'm proud of our effort. We'll keep getting better"
The Bengals followed closely in the first quarter trading points with the Trojans while five different Bengals scored in the first period. After 10 minutes the Bengals only trailed 15-11 to the team from LA.
After the first period, the Trojans' depth allowed them to pull away, hitting five three-pointers in the second quarter as the Bengals went into the locker room down 20-36.
After halftime, USC continued to pull away, hitting eight second-half three-pointers.
The Bengals never gave up and continued fighting throughout the second half scoring 22 points led by Callie Bourne's 12 in the second half.
At the end of 40, USC took the 75-42 victory in the first-ever meeting of the two programs.
Bengal Bites
· Callie Bourne led the Bengals with 19 points on seven-of-12 shooting from the floor. Bourne's 19 points are the highest for the Bengal Guard since February 25, 2022, when she scored 22 against Montana.
· USC outrebounded the Bengals 33-28. Laura Bello led ISU with five boards, a new season high.
· The Bengals struggled with turnovers, recording 27 in the game, the most allowed since 11/26 of last year against UCF.
· ISU finished with a season-high shooting percentage of .395 going 17-of-43. Eight different Bengals scored in the game.
· Despite being outsized, Idaho State outscored the Trojans 18-16 in the paint
