POCATELLO, Idaho – The Surging Idaho State Bengal volleyball team defeated the Idaho Vandals 3-1 in front of a crowd in Reed Gym Saturday afternoon.
The Bengals 13-12 (5-7 BSC) move up in the conference standings with the win and the Vandals 4-20 (1-11 BSC) hold their position in the standings.
The Bengals controlled the match early on in all the facets of the match. The Bengals took the lead early in the 1st and held it throughout, dominating the Vandals .440 to .000.
In what would continue for the rest of the match, Idaho State controlled the game t the net, out blocking the Vandals 4-0 in the first set.
In a stat that many fans don't see. The Bengals had an extremely impressive 92 percent sideout percentage, finishing the first set with 12-of-13 sideouts.
The Bengals continued to press in the second, and though the Vandals played closer, the Orange and Black kept up the attack and closed the set out with kills by Emrie Satuala and Andri Dewey.
The third set went Idaho's way and with a 2-1 lead the Bengals looked to close it out in the 4th.
To say the Bengals were ready in the first set would be an understatement. With Sadie Bluth at the service line and Jamie Streit on the attack. The Bengals surged to a 13-2 lead, putting the set away before Idaho even had a chance to know what was going on.
With victory in their sights, the Bengals didn't relent. The Vandals only earned seven more points. Just like the first set, Idaho State out hit the Vandals with a .433 percentage while holding Idaho to .000 for the 2nd time in the match.
The Bengals closed out the set and won the match 3-1. The win completed the season sweep of the Vandals by the Bengals.
