Bengals Open Big Sky Play with 69-64 win over NAU

 

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team walked into the Skydome in Flagstaff, AZ and controlled the game start to finish in a 69-64 win.

The Bengals (6-6) improve to 1-0 in Big Sky Play and the Lumberjacks fall to 6-8, 0-1 BSC.

The Bengal seniors led the way, Finley Garnett having a career night with 27 points and Callie Bourne with 16 points.

"NAU is a talented, experienced team and we are super proud of our young team's effort," remarked Head Coach Seton Sobolewski post-game. "Finley and Callie came ready to play tonight. They did a fantastic job pacing us early."

The Lumberjacks hit a layup three minutes into the first period and took their last lead of the game at 7-5. Finley Garnett responded with a three-pointer and the Bengals started rolling.

The Orange and Black didn't let up extending the lead to as many as 19 points in the 2nd quarter after yet another Garnett three.

With the Lumberjacks pressing back late in the fourth, four different Bengals hit three pointers, Garnett, Carsyn Boswell, Callie Bourne and Sophia Covello to keep the lead away from NAU.

Bourne and Bridee Burks closed out the game with free throws and the Bengals started Big Sky play with a 69-64 win.

The Bengals shot 39 percent from the floor. Garnet led the way with a career-high 27 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the floor with four made threes.

Bourne followed with 16 points .

Kacey Spink led the Bengals on the glass with eight boards. Laua Bellow and Bourne followed with seven each.

The Bengals won the rebound battle 49-42.

Idaho State is back on the road this weekend as they head to Greeley, CO to take on the UNC Bears at 2:00 PM
