POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State Bengals went into the UCCU center in Orem, UT Wednesday evening and downed the UVU Wolverines 64-48.
"UVU really mixed up the defenses on us tonight, but I thought we did a good job figuring it out." Remarked Head Coach Seton Sobolewski. "I thought we did a good job on the defensive end to keep control of the game."
The Bengals (5-4) started the game with a Carsyn Boswell three-pointer and didn't look back, never relinquishing the lead.
The Wolverines pressed the Bengals multiple times in the contest, but the Bengals didn't break. With 5:45 left to play in the first half, UVU cut the Bengals' lead to just one point at 23-22. Instead of falling to the pressure, the Bengals put together a 7-1 run over the final minutes capped by a second-chance layup by Laura Bello to take a 30-23 lead into the locker room.
The Bengals didn't let up in the second half, growing the lead to as large as 19 points in the fourth quarter. Over the final 20 minutes, Idaho State shot 10-of-25 from the field and 12-of-16 from the free throw line to ice the game.
Bengal Bites
· Callie Bourne had her second consecutive double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.
· Laura Bello earned her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Bello also went a perfect four-for-four from the free throw line.
· Carsyn Boswell had a season-high nine points with three made three-pointers.
· The Bengals shot 42.3 percent from the field on the game and 33.3 percent from three-point range.
· The Bengals controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Wolverines 41-30 with 12 o boards and nine second-chance points.
· The Bengals out-scored UVU in the paint 24-20 hitting 10-of-16 layups.
