POCATELLO, Idaho- To be the best you have to play the best and on Sunday that is exactly what the Idaho State men's tennis team did playing at No. 2 Baylor. While the Bengals lost 6-1, they saw great areas of improvement, especially in doubles play.
The Bengals point came in doubles play. ISU is the only team this year to beat Baylor in doubles.
Patrik Trhac and
Aleksandar Petrovic earned a 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 1 doubles over the No. 18 ranked team in the country, Finn Bass and Sven Lah.
Ege Cankus and
Hiroki Fujita clichéd the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-2) win over Jacob Brumm and Marko Miladinovic. Cankus and Fujita were down 5-1 before rallying to earn the victory.
"Today was a really good learning experience for our team," Idaho State coach
Alexander Free said. "I am proud of the way the team competed. Baylor is a well-coached team and one of the best teams in college tennis and they showed why today. We've been working really hard on our doubles and it's great to see its paying off. It's great to Aleks and Pat continuing their success today with a win over the No. 18 doubles team in the country."
Idaho State returns home to host Nevada on Feb. 11 at 12 p.m. in Reed Gym. The Bengals then play Linfield University on Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
