Softball Ready for Contests with BYU, Maine and Utah State

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State softball returns to the mountain west this week to take on BYU, Maine and Utah State.

First the Bengals are in Provo March 17 at 5:00 PM as they face off against the BYU Cougars.

Then, the Orange and Black head to Logan Utah for the 2022 Aggie Classic. Over two days the Bengals will play Maine and Utah State Twice.

Bengal Bites

·        In the Bengals 11-0 win over Abilene Christian on 2/11, pitcher Emma McMurray recorded her first career shutout and the Bengals had their first mercy-rule win since 2018.

·        Both Piper Tago and Isabella Hanson recorded their first NCAA Career home runs during the UTEP Invitational 2/10-12.

·        Against Cal State Fullerton on 2/19, Angelica Cano recorded the first walk-off of the season, a solo home run over center with two outs and two strikes.

·        The Bengals defeated Boise State 4-3 on 2/25. The Idaho State victory was the first against the Broncos since the 2016 season. Haley Rainey led the Bengals holding the broncos to just three hits and 8 strikeouts

·        Skyler Sethman ranks 6th in the big sky batting .366 on the season

·        Angelica Cano is 6th in the conference a SLG of .557 and 4th in the conference with 5 homeruns

·        Rheanne Lewis is tied for 1st in hits with 30 on the season and 1st in the conference with 2 triples already this season. and 2nd in the big sky with 19 runs scored.

·        Two Bengal pitchers are sitting top-5 in the conference in ERA. Haley Rainey is 3rd at 2.04 and Emma McMurray is 5th with a 2.58.

·        Rainey is 1st in the conference in opposing ba holding opponents to .209 percent and is tied for 1st in strikeouts with 50.

·        Rainey Threw her first career shutout against Nevada on Mar. 4. She followed it up with an 8-0 shutout win over Seton Hall.

·        In her win against Santa Clara, Mareena Ramirez struck out a career-high eight batters.
