POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State lost to Sacramento State University 3-0 and 11-4 Friday afternoon at Miller Ranch in Pocatello.
Game one of the day was a pitching battle between Haley Rainey and SAC's Marissa Bertuccio. Both pitchers threw strong from the circle and headed into the sixth, the Bengals had yet to record a hit.
Brook Richards finally broke the stale mate for the Bengals in the sixth with a single to center field.
Angelica Cano recorded the second hit for the Bengals in the seventh but the team was unable to close the gap and Sacramento State won game one 3-0.
Haley Rainey pitched a complete seven-inning game in the loss. She allowed only five hits and struckout a career-tying high 10 batters.

The two teams got off to a hot start in game two. After a Sac State homerun in the first inning, the Bengals responded. Richards reached on a error, she was followed by Rheanne Lewis and Cano hits. Frankie Tago came up to bat and hit a two RBI single giving the Bengals an early 2-1 lead.
Sac State put up two more runs in the second and third to take a 4-2 lead.
Cano came up to bat in the bottom of the third and cut the lead to 4-3 with her ninth home run of the season over the left field wall.
The two teams continued to battle back and forth and in the sixth, the Hornets took advantage of a seven-run sixth inning to take a 11-3 lead.
Mailee Newman extended the game in the bottom of the inning, following a Skyler Sethman triple, Newman hit a sacrifice fly to center brining Sethman home.
The Bengals were unable to close the gap and the Hornets finished with the 11-4 victory.

The Bengals are back at home tomorrow at 12:00 PM for the final game of the series with the Hornets.Â
