POCATELLO, Idaho – The UNC Bears defeated the Idaho State Bengals 72-54 in the 2022 Big Sky Tournament quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon.
The Bears got hot early and While the Bengals were able to tie the game up twice, UNC rode 51.1 percent shooting from the floor to take victory.
Idaho State struggled early, going down 8-2 in the first. The Bengals didn't give up though and kept chipping away at the Bears lead until with 1:07 left in the period Montana Oltrogge hit a jumper off of a UNC turnover to take a 16-15 lead with 1:07 to play.
Both teams continued to go back and forth in second led by Finley Garnett who had six points on two of two from the floor.
The Bengals and Bears headed into the locker room at halftime tied 31 apiece.
The Bears pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bengals 41-23 in the second half behind 61.9 shooting percentage.
The Bengals fought till the end but ultimately fell to the Bears.
Garnett led the Bengals with an ISU career-high 11 points on four-of-six shooting from the field.
The Bears controlled the glass, grabbing 41 boards to ISU's 30.
The Bengals end the Big Sky Season as Regular Season Outright Champions and leave a legacy of repeating back-to-back years, something always difficult in the Big Sky Conference.
