POCATELLO, Idaho- Idaho State softball split the opening games against Portland State on Friday afternoon at Miller Ranch Stadium.
After losing 11-1 in five innings in game 1, the Bengals rallied for an 8-5 win in nightcap.
Idaho State trailed 5-0 after the top of the second inning.
Frankie Tago then hit a go-ahead homer to lead off the second inning. The leadoff homer sparked the Bengals to a four run inning as Isabella Hansen had a three-run homer in the inning.
Idaho State tied the game at five in the third inning and then put the game away in the fifth with three runs. Tago hit her second homer of the game in the inning on a two-run blast to right center.
Morgan Hess plated the final run on an RBI double to left-center.
Mailee Newman pitched Idaho State to the game two victory. She went the final 5.1 innings and allowed only three hits.
Idaho State had 10 hits and one error while PSU finished with eight hits and two errors in the game 2.
The series concludes Saturday at 12 p.m. The Bengal seniors will be honored following the game.
