POCATELLO, Idaho - The Idaho State Bengals and Idaho Vandals squared off in a defensive heavy match in Moscow, Sunday afternoon with the Vandals taking a 1-0 victory.
The first half saw both defenses battle back and forth for 44 minutes with neither team able to find an edge or offensive production. On just the sixth shot of the half, the Vandals were able to power a goal past the Bengal keeper and head into the locker room up 1-0. The goal would prove to be the game winner.
In the second half, the Bengals kept pressing, never giving up even down a goal. In the 75th minute, Gabby Warta sent a rocket towards the Vandal goal, the ball was just inches too high and deflected off of the crossbar and the score stayed 1-0.
The Bengals kept pressing with Virginia Wallace following with a shot just deflected by the Idaho keeper.
The Bengals kept pressing right until the 90-minute horn, but couldn't equalize.
Idaho State continues Big Sky Conference play next week as the Bengals square off with NAU at home on Sunday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM
