Bengals Back Home for Clash with Wildcats

POCATELLO, Idaho - After more than a, the Idaho State Bengals are back home to defend the court in Reed Gym. The Bengals (7-6, 2-0 BSC) welcome the Weber State Wildcats (4-10, 0-2 BSC) to Pocatello for a Big Sky Conference clash. Tip is set for 2:00 PM on Saturday Jan. 7.

Bengal Bites
The Bengals opened the 2022-23 regular season on 11/07 with a 62-42 win over the Westminster Griffins. 

 

• Finley Garnett had a career night against Westminster, scoring the first double-double of the season, a career high 20 pts, 10 rebound effort 

 

• Against the CBU lancers on 11/26 Idaho State had 3 seperate players record double-doubles. Callie Bourne, Laura Bello and Kacey Spink, this is believed to be the first time in ISU WBB history that this has occured.

 

 • Seton Sobolewski recorded his 250th win as head coach on 11/22/2022 against Montana Tech 

 

• Freshman Kacey Spink has dazzled on defense, averaging 6.88 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game for the ORange and Black. Spink ranks 8th in the Big SKy in boards and 5th in steals. 

 

• Laura Bello ranks 3rd in the conference in rebounding with 8.92 grabs per game on average

 

• ISU has the 19th-best scoring defense in the ncaa and the No.1 spot in the Big Sky Conference, holding opponents to an average of 54.62 points scored. 

 

• Callie Bourne scored her 1,000th career point in the Bengals win over Montana Tech. Callie is the 22nd player in ISU history to pass the four figure mark and the first Bengal since current assistant coach dora goles passed the mark in the 2021-22 season. 

 

• ISU picked up its first DI win of the year, defeating California Baptist on 11/26.

 

• In the Bengals' win over UVU Both Laura Bello and Callie Bourne recorded their 3rd double-double of the season. 

 

• Callie Bourne's 7 steals vs UVU was 1 shy of the all-time school record for single-game steals. 

 

• While the Bengals have played florida based teams before, the tournament the Bengals played in Orlando is believed to be the first games that Idaho STate has played within the sunshine State in program history. 

• Finley Garnett had her 3rd 20+ Point game of the season against the NAU Lumberjacks on 12/29.

 

 • For the First time since the 2007 season, the Idaho State men's and women's basketball teams opened up Big SKy Play with a combined 4-0 record. 

 

• Callie bourne sits at 798 career rebounds, She needs 41 more to pass Grace Kenyon for 4th all-time in the ISU record Book. 

 

Quick Scout and History - Weber State

• This is the 95th all-time meeting of the two programs. Weber State leads the series 48-46, but the Bengals have won nine straigt over the Wildcats. WSU's previous win in the series was in January of 2018.

 

• This season, the Wildcats are 4-10, 0-2 BSC. Weber is coming off of losses to NAU and UNC this past weekend.

 

• They were picked to finish seventh in the coaches poll and ninth in the media poll at the beginning of the season.

 

• #21 Daryn Hickok leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.6 ppg with a .451 shooting average. Hickok was

named to the pre-season all-Big Sky team.

 

• The Wildcats are averaging 60.2 ppg as a team, a -7.4 scoring margin with opponents.

 

• Like the Bengals, Weber has trouble with turnovers, averaging 20.8 per game.

 

• The Wildcats have trouble coming out of the locker room, being outscored in the 3rd quarter in 10 of the 14 games they have played, look for the Bengals to jump on second-half momentum.
