Bengals Battle to Final Second in Loss to UC Davis 21-14



POCATELLO, Idaho – A strong contest was expected between the Idaho State Bengals and the UC Davis Aggies. The contest didn't disappoint with a back-and-forth battle that spanned four quarters and ended with the Aggies just pulling away with a game-winning touchdown to take the game 21-14 over the Bengals.

Idaho State moves to 3-7, 3-4 BSC and finishes it's home season. The Bengals have one more to play against the University of Idaho on November, 18 in Moscow, Idaho.

After the opening kickoff, the Bengals and Aggies traded the ball back-and-forth multiple times. With 7:55 left in the period, the Bengals started a drive on their own five-yard line. Jordan Cooke marched Idaho State down the field. During the drive, the Bengals completed two fourth-down conversions. Then, from the UC Davis seven, Hunter Hays threw a dart to Christian Frederickson in the endzone for the first points of the game.

The Second quarter saw more of the same with the two defenses battling and neither team able to find an edge. With 9:47 left In the half, the Aggies tied the game back up at 7-7.

Despite multiple chances, neither team was able to capitalize for the rest of the half and the Bengals went into the half knotted up at 7-7.

Coming out of the locker room, the Orange and Black looked to regain the edge in the game. With 8:22 left in the 3rd, the Bengals put together some explosive plays capped by a five-yard pass from Jordan Cooke to Chedon James, who fought off the UC Davis defender to snag the pass in the endzone for the touchdown. The Bengals led 14-7 in the 3rd.

UC Davis tied the game back up at the end of the 3rd and the two teams went into the final period knotted up at 14 each.

The Bengal defense stepped up multiple times in the fourth, stopping the Aggie offense multiple times and forcing the Aggies to punt. The Bengal offense was unable to gather momentum and the two teams continued to trade possessions.

After pinning the Aggies on the 8 yard line from a line-drive punt by Ross Bolger. The Aggies put together a final 10 play 92 yard drive to take the lead with two minutes left in the game.

The Bengals never gave up, driving the field for a final time making it to the Davis 29 yard line before the Aggies were able to force an interception and kneel out the game.

Notes

 

·      The Bengals outgained the Aggies 410 to 394 yards and had 19 first downs to UCD's 17

·      Mason Young led in total tackles with 9. Nathan Reynolds and Cortland Horton followed with eight and seven respectively.

·      The Bengals forced the Aggies to punt 9 times in the game.

·      Ross Bolger averaged 48.3 yards per punt over seven punts with six dropping inside the 20 yard line.

 

Next Up – Next up, the Bengals head to Moscow, Idaho to take on the Idaho Vandals. Kickoff is set for November 18 at 5:00 PM MT.
