POCATELLO, Idaho- The Bengal volleyball team completed their final two home matches this week. Taking on Montana State on Thursday and Montana on Saturday for senior day.
In the match versus Montana State, we saw the Bobcats sweep the Bengals, as the Bengals fell 3-0 (28-26, 25-14, 25-16). Jamie Streit led the way for the Bengals in this one, finishing with 11 kills, Jaydin Watts was right behind her with 9 kills. Aliyah Sopo'aga led the way in assists, finishing with 18 while Lauren Mena also chipped in with 8. On the defensive end of the floor the Bengals were led by Lily Liekweg who finished with 14 digs, Asiah Sopo'aga finished with 11. Jaydin Watts led the way at the net, with a team-high of 7 blocks in the game.
For the second match on the weekend the Bengals took on the Montana Grizzlies. In this match the Bengals fought hard all match, but could not get it done. Falling to the Griz in straight sets (25-16, 25-23, 25-21). Jaydin Watts led the Bengals on the offensive end, tallying 11 kills, while Jamie Steit finished with 9 and Marci Richins had 7. Aliyah Sopo'aga led the way in the assist department, totaling 19 while Lauren Mena had 9. Lily Liekweg, who celebrated senior day prior to the match beginning, had a game-high 15 digs and Aliyah Sopo'aga had 12. The Bengals tallied 5 team blocks, Jaydin Watts leading the way with 3.
After the weekend the Bengals fall to 8-17 on the season and 6-8 in conference play.
Idaho State volleyball will be back on the road for their final two matches of the 2023 regular season before the Big Sky Championships begin. On Thursday, November 16th they will be in Greeley, CO facing off against the reigning champs, Northern Colorado, followed by a date on Saturday, November 18th in Flagstaff, AZ with Northern Arizona.
