PHOENIX, Arizona– The Idaho State men's tennis team returned to the court Friday morning for the second round of the Big Sky Conference Tournament where today their matchup was the top seeded Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks. This is the second meeting between the Bengals and Lumberjacks, where NAU came out victorious 4-3 in Pocatello. Unfortunately, Idaho State was unable to avenge their loss from earlier this season and fell to NAU 4-1. Idaho State will end the season with a 10-14 overall record and 2-5 in conference play.
In the semifinal round of the Big Sky Conference Men's Tennis Tournament the 5
th seeded Idaho State Bengals faced a tough task as they went up against the regular season champs, Northern Arizona. Beginning in doubles play the Bengals came out firing on all cylinders.
Valentino De Pellegrin and
Andreas Kramer put up a massive 7-6 win in the No. 1 doubles match and in the No. 2 doubles match
Wikus Robbertse and
Patrick Kristensen managed to do the same, winning 7-6 against their Lumberjack opponents and putting Idaho State out in front early with a huge doubles point victory. Following the doubles matches the Bengals looked to capitalize and push the Lumberjacks to the brink. Sad to say, the Bengals could not get much going in singles play as they were swept by the Lumberjacks and fell in the match 4-1.
Head coach Oliver Good shared his thoughts on the Bengals match today and efforts throughout the season, "We are disappointed with today's result, but I am really proud of this team and the way they compete for one another. These guys are a special group, and there are great things to come for them. We gave it our best today, as we always do. It wasn't quite good enough, but we are lucky enough to have no players graduating, so we look forward to improving and coming back better next year."
The Bengals men's tennis team played extraordinary this season and we could not be prouder to have them representing us on the court.
