POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State softball split day one of its series with Northern Colorado Friday afternoon.
Jordan Schuring pitched a complete game shutout in the Bengals' game one, 1-0 victory.
The Bengals then fell 4-0 in Game two to the Bears.
Game one was a complete pitcher's duel. After three innings of back and forth battling, the Bengals broke the tie after a single by Alyssa Yee, who then stole second. Olivia Robison stepped up to the plate and hammered a double up the middle scoring Yee and giving the Bengals the 1-0 advantage.
In the top of the 5th, the Bears made a strong offensive push, getting runners on second and third with no outs. With ice in her veins, Schuring composed herself and went back to work striking out one Bear and forcing two others into flyouts, surviving the push.
The Bengal defense took over in the final two innings capped by Paige Simpson shooting the ball from shortstop to Angelica Cano at first for the final putout of the game and securing the Bengals' 1-0 win over the Bears.
In game two, Both teams battled back and forth until the Bears relied on a pair of home run balls to take a 2-0 lead.
The Bears were able to add two more on in the sixth and close out the game for th 4-0 victory.
ISU and UNC are back at Miller Ranch for one more series-deciding game tomorrow with first pitch set for 12:00 PM.
