Bengal Soccer Goes 1-1 In Utah

ST. GEORGE, Utah- The Bengal soccer team wrapped up their final two non-conference matches on Thursday and Sunday as they played at Southern Utah University and Utah Tech.

In the match versus Southern Utah, we saw the Bengals down the Thunderbirds 3-2. Idaho State opened the scoring with two goals in the first nine minutes of the second half. The first in the 48th minute by Kaylyn Buchanan after some fancy footwork and a beautiful assist by Rachel Fullmer. The second coming on a free-kick from near the mid-way line from Callie Kitagawa-Mullen in the 54th minute. After a Thunderbird goal in the 62nd minute the Bengals had their first penalty kick opportunity of the season in the 68th minute, and it was hammered home by Mary Za for her 3rd goal on the season, to put the Bengals up 3-1. Southern Utah scored in the 73rd minute to make the score 3-2, but could not complete the comeback and Idaho State earned their second victory of the season. Kelsey Jargstorf played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bengals, making four saves and allowing two goals. Forward, Mary Za finished with 1 goal off of 3 shots on goal in 52 minutes played, Callie Kitagawa-Mullen and Kaylyn Buchanan also finished with one goal apiece for Idaho State and Rachel Fullmer finished with one assist.

On Sunday afternoon the Bengals took on Utah Tech in St. George. The Bengals and Trailblazers went into the halftime break tied at one goal each, the goal for ISU being scored by Sienna Latta in the 19th minute. Both teams turned on the jets in the second half, as both teams combined for six goals in the final 20 minutes of the match. After the Bengals scored an equalizing goal in the 80th miunte the Trailblazers stormed right back, scoring the game-winning goal in the 86th minute as Utah Tech downed Idaho State 4-3. Kelsey Jargstorf was in goal all 90 minutes for the Bengals, making seven saves and allowing four goals, suffering her first loss in goal this season (2-1). Kaylyn Buchanan netted her fourth goal on the season for Idaho State as she finished with one goal in 69 minutes played, while Brooklyn Kouns and Sienna Latta each scored one goal as well, and Rachel Fullmer finished with one assist.
