Bengals Fall in Opener at Oregon State

CORVALLIS, OR – The Idaho State Bengals battled the Oregon State Beavers to a 38-15 Loss in Reser Stadium, Saturday afternoon.

Postgame Remarks

How it Happened

Idaho State came out in Corvallis and didn't blink facing off against their PAC foe.

The first drive of the game for the Oregon State Beavers led to the first turnover for the Bengal defense in 2024. Teilor Tuioti smashed the Beaver running back at the line of scrimmage and after the ball popped out, Mason Young dove on it to secure the Bengal turnover.

After an interception, the Beavers went on a six-play, 63-yard drive for the first score of the game, OSU rushed the ball on all six plays of the drive.

Down 7-0, the Bengals kept fighting. The Orange and Black defense stepped up and forced a punt from the Beavers. As the Bengal special teams put the pressure on the OSU line, the Beaver long-snapper sailed it over the head of the punter for a safety giving ISU two points.

Taking advantage of the safety punt, the Bengals then drove the field with QB Kobe Tracy at the helm and with the clock expiring, Tracy threw a 35 yard dart to Christian Fredericksen who snagged it to give the Bengals the lead at the end of the quarter.

The 2nd quarter saw the two teams settle into a back and forth battle, both teams fighting furiously and neither wanting to give an inch.

Kris Sanchez had the first sack of the season for the Bengals as the OSU QB was flushed out and Sanchez delivered the booming hit, taking the Beaver to the ground.

This led the OSU settling for a FG and the Beavers led 10-9 with 9:34 to play.

For the next nine minutes, the Bengals and Beavers fought and tough ground and pound game. Finally, with just 27 seconds left, the Beavers were able to force into the endzone and the half ended with a 17-9 Oregon State advantage.

After kicking off the third quarter, the Bengal defense stepped up and following a Logan George sack, the Beavers punted and the Bengals took over on the 17.

After giving up two touchdowns to the Beavers in the 3rd, Tracy came back in at QB and led the Bengals on a seven-play 87 yard drive that was capped with Hunter Hays coming in to throw a dart to Michael Shulikov in the endzone and cut the Beaver lead to 31-15.

The fourth quarter settled into a back and forth push and the Beavers tacked on one final touchdown to finish the game with the 38-15 victory.
