POCATELLO, Idaho - After a back and forth battle against the Sacramento State Hornets in Reed Gym, the Hornets took advantage of a late fourth quarter surge to take down the Bengals 72-63.

The Bengals fall to 6-11, 1-5 on the year and have now dropped four straight Big Sky contests.Â

The first half was a furious back and forth between the two conference opponents with neither team able to secure a lead on the other. Despite a two-point lead by the Hornets at halftime, theÂ
Bengals finished the first-quarter strong, shooting 68.2 percent from the floor in the half. The Bengals also shot 75 percent fro three-point range.Â

In the 2nd half, the Bengals started off outscoring the Hornets 17-12 in the third quarter led by Piper Carlson's six points. With one second left on the clock, Tasia Jordan dished the ball to freshman Aurora Elder, who beat the buzzer, putting the ball in to extend the Bengal lead to 55-52 headed into the fourth.Â

In the final period, the Hornets turned on the gas, shooting 58.3 from the field while the Bengals were held to three-of-12 shooting, 25 percent as the Hornets pulled away for the 72-63 win.Â

Sophia Covello led the Bengals with 16 points on six of 10 shooting from the floor with 4 made three pointers, her 2nd highest three point production of the season.Â

Piper Carlson followed with 15 points, Tasia Jordan came in next with 14 points.Â

On the glass, the Bengals and Hornets tied on the glass with 27 rebounds apiece.Â

From the charity strop, the Bengals went 9-of-15 while the Hornets hit 14-of-18.
