Men's Basketball Brings 6 New Faces Onboard for 2025-26

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State men's basketball and Head Coach Ryan Looney have announced their 2025 spring signing class. The Bengals are welcoming a group of six new players, 2 incoming freshmen, and 4 transferring in from the DI, DII, and NAIA levels.

Coming off the Bengals' best season with Coach Looney at the helm, going 15-15 overall and 10-8 in conference play, good enough for 4th in the final Big Sky standings, Idaho State would lose 9 players due to graduation or the transfer portal. Their biggest departures being reigning Big Sky Most Valuable Player, Dylan Darling, and All-Big Sky Honorable Mention & All-Conference Defensive team member, Jake O'Neil. Although, Darling is still in the portal, he has yet to make a final decision on if he will attend a different school in the fall, or return to Idaho State. Nonetheless, Ryan Looney & co. once again had a big recruiting process in front of them for the spring.

Jamison Guerra | Senior | 6-0 | Point Guard | Sherwood, Oregon | Oregon Institute of Technology

Caleb Van De Griend | Senior | 6-8 | Forward | Bridgetown, Australia | Minot State University

Caleb is a familiar face for Bengal fan favorite and current starter, Connor Hollenbeck, who played with Van De Griend at Minot State during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.

Ryan Looney and his staff have made it abundantly clear that they want to improve upon their 3-point shooting from last season, after ranking 7th in the Big Sky in 3-pointers made per game and last in the conference in 3-point percentage, by bringing in 4 high-level shooters in Brewer, Patterson, Bond, and Birley. The Bengals' HC also knew the team would need to round out their rotation of ball handlers and enforcers down low, bringing both Guerra and Van De Griend onboard.

Idaho State currently has 13 players on the roster for next season, adding these six new signees to the reigning Big Sky Freshman of the Year, Evan Otten, and another vital piece to last season's squad, Connor Hollenbeck, as well as Jaedyn Brown, Blake Daberkow, Cheikh SowCovy Kelly, and Martin Kheil.
