Garrett Earns Second Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week Honor of the Season

FARMINGTON, Utah – Another week, another dominant performance between the posts for Idaho State goalkeeper Aliya Garrett, who has once again been named the Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week following a pair of shutout victories over Montana and Portland State.

Garrett was nothing short of spectacular in goal for the Bengals, leading Idaho State to a perfect 2-0-0 weekend on the road while helping the Orange and Black secure their first two Big Sky Conference victories of the season.

The Bengal goalkeeper was a wall in net, recording nine saves across 180 minutes of action, allowing zero goals while securing her fifth and sixth shutouts of the season. Garrett averaged 4.5 saves per match, turning away every shot on goal she faced to finish the weekend with a perfect 1.000 save percentage and 0.00 goals-against average.

The recognition marks Garrett's second Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week award this season, having previously earned the honor on Aug. 25, 2026, following her shutout performance at CSU Bakersfield.

Garrett opened the weekend by shutting down Montana, recording three saves in Idaho State's victory over the Grizzlies. The Bengal goalkeeper played all 90 minutes, keeping Montana off the scoreboard and securing her fifth clean sheet of the season.

Two days later, Garrett delivered another outstanding performance against Portland State.

Facing 14 total shots from the Vikings, Garrett stood tall throughout the contest, making six saves, her second-highest save total in a single match this season. Despite Portland State's offensive pressure, Garrett refused to give an inch, preserving her sixth shutout of the year and helping Idaho State complete the undefeated road weekend.

The Bengals' defensive dominance extended well beyond the goalkeeper's individual numbers. Over the two matches, Idaho State held its opponents scoreless on 23 combined shots, including nine shots on goal, while limiting Montana and Portland State to just six combined corner kicks.

Idaho State also outshot its opponents 28-23 over the weekend, scored three goals and never trailed in either contest, completing an impressive road sweep that saw the Bengals earn consecutive road conference victories for the first time since 2013.
