LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Idaho State erased a six-run deficit with a six-run fourth inning, but UNLV responded with an eight-run surge across the fifth and sixth innings to defeat the Bengals 14-6 on Saturday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium.
The loss moves Idaho State to 6-7 overall on the season.
How It Happened
UNLV capitalized on three Idaho State errors in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three unearned runs to take an early 3-0 lead.
The Rebels added two runs in the second inning and one more in the third, extending the advantage to 6-0.
Idaho State answered in the top of the fourth inning with its most explosive frame of the afternoon. Alyssa Yee led off with a bunt single, followed by a single from Sydney Groves. Ava Brown doubled to right field to bring home the Bengals' first run.
Kira Day delivered a two-RBI double down the left field line, scoring Groves and Brown to cut the deficit to three. After a walk to Camryn McDonald, Brooke Peterson doubled to center field to plate two more runs. Belle Navarrete followed with an RBI double, capping a six-run inning that tied the game at 6-6.
UNLV regained momentum in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring six runs to take a 12-6 lead. The Rebels added two more runs in the sixth inning to extend the margin to 14-6.
Idaho State recorded nine hits in the contest but was held scoreless over the final two innings.
