EUGENE, Ore. – Idaho State opened Saturday at the Oregon Classic with a strong 5-2 victory over Stetson before falling 8-0 to Samford later in the day at Jane Sanders Stadium. The Bengals move to 10-9 on the year with one more to go in Eugene.
Game One
Idaho State 5, Stetson 2
The Bengals wasted no time setting the tone in the morning matchup. Belle Navarrete drew a leadoff walk in the first inning and Sydney Groves followed with a two-run home run to center field, giving Idaho State a 2-0 lead.
Stetson cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth inning, but Idaho State answered immediately. Jenna Kearns doubled to left center and Kira Day launched a two-run home run to left field, stretching the lead to 4-1.
After the Hatters added a run in the fifth to make it 4-2, Day delivered again in the sixth inning with her second home run of the game, a solo shot to left that provided insurance at 5-2.
Goluskin handled the rest.
The right-hander threw all seven innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking four. She worked out of multiple traffic situations and held Stetson scoreless over the final two frames to secure the win.
Idaho State finished with 10 hits in the victory. Groves went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Day finished 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBI, and two runs scored. Ava Brown added two hits, while Kearns and Olivia Robison each recorded doubles.
Game Two
Samford 8, Idaho State 0
In the afternoon contest, Idaho State was limited to three hits in an 8-0 loss to Samford.
Alyssa Yee led the Bengals at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple. Kira Day added a single to account for Idaho State's third hit.
Kasey Aguinaga took the loss after allowing four runs in two innings. Riley Wickum provided 3.2 innings of relief.
Tournament Notes
Through four games at the Oregon Classic, Idaho State moves to 2-2.
