POCATELLO, Idaho - Idaho State Bengals Head Coach Gretchen Maloney announced the signing of Scarlett Matthews on Thursday. Matthews, a native of London, England, will join the Idaho State Bengals for the 2026–27 season.
Bengals Head Coach Gretchen Maloney shared her thoughts on bringing Scarlett onboard, "Delighted to have Scarlett Matthews join us next season. Her work ethic and dedication to the game will fit nicely into our culture. Her aggressive style of play, and her great footwork will also be a nice addition. She is also really sound technically and we look forward to seeing how her game fits into college tennis."
Matthews attended Queenswood and brings an impressive international résumé to Idaho State. She represented Team England at the World Championships in Bahrain, finishing fourth, and helped her team secure two consecutive national school championships. Matthews also reached the finals of a junior ITF doubles event, showcasing her ability to compete at a high level. Standing at 5-foot-8, she adds athleticism and experience to the Bengals lineup.
Matthews plans to major in economics at Idaho State and cited the strong balance between the team's competitive culture and positive environment as key factors in her decision.
Matthews will enter Idaho State as a freshman in the fall of 2026.
Matthews is the third member of the Bengals' 2026–27 signing class.
