POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State women's soccer closed out its home non-conference slate Thursday afternoon, falling 0-6 to No. 18 Utah State on Senior Day at Davis Field.
The Bengals honored their senior class before taking on a nationally ranked Aggie squad that entered the match with just two losses on the season. Utah State jumped out to an early advantage with three goals in the opening 11 minutes before adding three more in the second half. The loss moved Idaho State to 2-5-1 on the season.
Utah State wasted little time getting on the board, as Summer Diamond scored just 30 seconds into the match to give the Aggies an early 1-0 advantage.
Idaho State goalkeeper Aliya Garrett responded with a pair of saves over the next seven minutes, but Utah State doubled its lead from the penalty spot in the 10th minute when Rachel Reitz converted. Diamond struck again just 1:07 later, giving the Aggies a 3-0 advantage at the 10:52 mark.
Despite the difficult opening stretch, the Bengals settled into the match and kept Utah State off the scoreboard for the remainder of the first half.
Garrett came up with several stops to keep the margin at three, making saves in the 17th, 36th and 39th minutes. The Bengal defense also recorded a team save late in the half as Utah State continued to apply pressure.
Idaho State began creating opportunities of its own as the half progressed. Parker Sullivan recorded the Bengals' first shot in the 27th minute before Syleena Hogan followed with an attempt less than two minutes later. Lacie Poll and Nolyn Cromie each added shots in the final five minutes before halftime.
The Bengals entered the break trailing 0-3 after holding the Aggies scoreless over the final 34:08 of the opening half.
Utah State added its fourth goal in the 59th minute when Kaeda Wilson found the back of the net. The Aggies then closed out the scoring with goals from Mia Lopez and Mia Mullenmeister in the 77th and 80th minutes, respectively.
Garrett played all 90 minutes in goal and faced steady pressure throughout the afternoon. The Bengal keeper was credited with seven saves, while Idaho State also recorded a team save. Utah State finished with 32 shots, putting 14 on goal.
Idaho State was limited to a season low, five shots, with Saydree Cooke, Syleena Hogan, Nolyn Cromie, Lacie Poll and Parker Sullivan recording one attempt each. The Bengals earned two corner kicks, both coming in the opening half.
While Thursday's result did not go Idaho State's way, the afternoon provided the Bengals an opportunity to recognize their senior class at Davis Field in front of their home fans.
