POCATELLO, Idaho – Following a standout weekend in Boise, Idaho State volleyball's Aspen Boice has been named the Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Boice helped lead the Bengals to a 2-1 record at the Boise State Classic, picking up wins over UNLV and host Boise State during the three-day tournament.
The Idaho State libero was a steady presence in the back row throughout the weekend, totaling 59 digs across 12 sets for an average of 4.92 digs per set. Boice's defensive play helped keep the Bengals in rallies throughout the tournament and provided a consistent presence in serve receive as Idaho State battled through three competitive matches.
Boice and the Bengal defense opened the tournament by helping Idaho State earn a 3-1 victory over UNLV before closing out the weekend with a thrilling five-set victory over Boise State on the Broncos' home floor.
Her performance in Boise continued a strong start to the season for Boice, who has quickly established herself as an important piece of the Bengals' defense, leading the team in Digs through the first two weekends of the season. Her ability to extend rallies and keep Idaho State in system has provided stability in the back row while allowing the Bengals' offense additional opportunities to score.
The weekly honor adds to an already impressive weekend for Boice, who was also selected to the Boise State Classic All-Tournament Team alongside teammate Ava Brickner.
Boice's selection as Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week is the first weekly conference honor of her career.
Idaho State will look to carry the momentum from its successful weekend in Boise into its next stretch of non-conference play.
