Daniel Drayton enters his second year as the defensive back coach at Idaho State. He comes to Idaho State after working as a graduate assistant coach at Oregon State since June 2009. In his first year with the Bengals, Drayton coached Donovan Henley, who earned Honorable Mention All Big Sky Conference by leading the league in interceptions with four.
While at Oregon State, Drayton worked with the safeties on defense, the gunners on the punt team and the pressers on the punt return team. He assisted the defensive coordinator with the defensive backs and coordinating practice. He conducted daily meetings with freshmen and sophomore defensive backs, as well as with scout team members because he was the scout team coordinator. He was also in charge of weekly opponent scouting reports as he completed breakdowns of opponents’ offensive film creating weekly opponent cut-ups. On game day, Drayton charted defensive calls, offensive plays, down and distance and field zone. Lastly, he assisted defensive staff members with evaluations and write ups on recruits, and he helped the recruiting coordinator with coordinating recruiting weekends.
As a graduate assistant, Drayton saw his team beat Pittsburgh in the Sun Bowl in 2008 and lose to BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl in 2009.
Prior to being a graduate assistant at Oregon State, he was a player for the Beavers from 2004 – 2007. During his athletic career, Oregon State went to three bowl games and won each of them. In 2004, the Beavers participated in the Insight Bowl versus Notre Dame and won 38 – 21. Then, in 2006, Oregon State went to the Sun Bowl against Missouri and squeaked out a victory 39 – 38. In 2007, the Beavers played in the Emerald Bowl versus Maryland and won 21 – 14.
Drayton was a four-year letter winner at Oregon State as a defensive back from 2004 – 2007.
