Running Backs/Kickers/Recruiting Coordinator
Recruiting Area: Arizona, San Diego

3rd year at ISU

Jeff Banks enters his third season at Idaho State, and he handles the running backs and kickers, as well as serving as recruiting coordinator. Banks came to Idaho State from Washington State, where he served as a graduate assistant under Mike Price.

Banks has helped ISU bring in two stellar recruiting classes, including All-American punter Eddie Johnson, who Banks coached to the NCAA I-AA punting title in 2001 and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2003 NFL Draft. Banks also oversaw the breakout season of two ISU running backs. Last year, Isaac Mitchell rushed for 968 yards and is considered one of I-AA's best for 2003. In 2001, Mike Jones became the first back in school history with three straight 130+ yard rushing games.

While at WSU, Banks coached the kickers and punters, and helped keep up Washington State's fine kicking tradition, coaching Rian Lindell, who kicked last season for the Seattle Seahawks, and Kareem Anderson, who was with New England last season.

A two-year letterwinner at Washington State, Banks handled the punting chores, averaging 42.8 yards on 60 punts as a junior, and averaging 43.4 yards on 56 punts as a senior. His regular season average of 43.8 yards led the Pac-10 in 1998. Jeff also earned national recognition with his 53.0 yard average against Boise State, earning him the national AT&T Long Distance Award. Jeff was selected to play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

Banks lettered for two years at Citrus Junior College, earning first team All-Conference honors as both a punter and a kicker as a senior. At Citrus, Banks kicked a career-best 50-yard field goal.

A 1993 graduate of Bishop Amat, Banks lettered for four years in soccer and one year in football as a kicker. He earned a state championship ring with Bishop Amat, going a perfect 51-for-51 on extra points. He is married, and his wife Kori works at Idaho State.
