Copp enters his first year with Idaho State University, and he takes over responsibilities of ISU's defensive ends. Copp comes to Idaho State from Arizona State, where he spent the last three years as a graduate assistant coach, working with the Sun Devil safeties. While at Arizona State, he worked for former Bengal Dirk Koetter, and he helped ASU to the 2002 Holiday Bowl after an 8-6 season.

Copp coached the defensive ends during Idaho State's spring season, and he was instrumental in the solid gains made by the defensive ends, despite their thin numbers in the spring.

Copp played collegiately at Boise State, where he was named All-Big West as a defensive end. Copp also helped the Broncos to a pair of Humanitarian Bowl wins, over Louisville in 1999 and UTEP in 2000. He graduated in 2001 with a degree in health sciences. The native of Idaho Falls graduated in 1996 after lettering for two years in baseball, football, and basketball.
