Jessica Sargent enters her first year as the athletic academic advisor with Idaho State Athletics.
As an athletic academic advisor, Sargent provides academic supervision and support for the men’s football program. In addition, Sargent is responsible for assisting with the oversight of the Student Athlete Study Center Program and with Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) programming and initiatives.
No stranger to Idaho State, Sargent has been a Bengal for many years. Prior to her current appointment, she worked under the Vice President of Student Affairs as the Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives at Idaho State. Sargent rewrote the Division’s emergency protocols, designed correspondence from the Division to employees and students, and highlighted the Division’s five strategic initiatives.
For nearly three years, Sargent also taught courses as a teaching assistant and as an adjunct lecturer for the Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Criminology as well as for the Department of Political Science at Idaho State. As such, she developed all class material and course work and advised students on time management, learning and study strategies, test taking, and note taking in order to help each student find success in her course and in the rest of their educational career.
Additionally, Sargent also served as a Senator for the Associated Students of Idaho State University (ASISU) and as Student Body President. She worked with students from all across campus, managed relationships with staff, faculty, administrators, and community members, delivered public addresses and educational presentations, and strove to ensure student needs were at the center of every action made.
Sargent was a four-year student-athlete at Idaho State University, competing in the 400-meter sprint and the 800-meter run. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2015 and earned a master’s degree in sociology in 2018, both from Idaho State.
