Lei Talamaivao was named the defensive line coach in August of 2019. He comes to Pocatello from Snow College where he was the defensive line coach. In his first year as the defensive line coach at Idaho State, the Bengal defense helped secure the fewest yards allowed in a season since 2010. The 2019 season saw improvements in total sacks from the previous year with 17 to 22, eight of which was by the defensive line.
In 2018, as a Graduate Assistant , Coach Talamaivao assisted and worked with the Defensive Line that had three all conference players who were drafted in the NFL in Pac-12 first-team (Bradlee Anae & Leki Fotu) & all-Pac-12 second-team, John Penisini. Utah won Its first South Pac-12 Title.
In 2017, as Quality Control, Coach Talamaivao assisted and worked with the Defensive Line that had three all conference players in Pac 12 first-team (Lowell Lotulelei), Pac-12 second-team (Kylie Fitts) & Pac-12 third-team (Filipo Mokofisi). Kylie was drafted by the Bears while Lowell signed as a free agent with the Broncos.
Talamaivao lettered and played at the University of Utah from (2007-2011). Injuries slowed his collegiate career but he was the starter until he got injured in the second game of the 2008 season. That year Utah won the Sugar Bowl by defeating Alabama and finishing off a perfect season at 13-0.
Talamaivao earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and minor in criminology. Talamaivao has been married to his sweetheart Saloloma since 2016 and they have a daughter, Sariah.
